Video Games: The Movie

Some reasons video games were successful are the immersive worlds and story driven plot that some games give us to make ourselves feel like a part of the game. As it's been mentioned in the movie, video games let us escape the reality of our world and go into another, allowing us to have fun or relax at the end of the day. Video games also entertain us in many different, engaging ways and that's one of the reasons why video games are so successful. What makes a popular game is one that appeals to a wide audience and is enjoyable for them to play. Current trends can also affect what makes a game popular as certain genres and sub-genres will occasionally rise in popularity.

One of the reasons why the video game industry crashed in the 1980's is because many games were being produced but they weren't of the best quality, leading to the price of cartridge games to go down. This resulted in some companies becoming bankrupt. Another reason was that many consoles were coming out with a multitude of games of their own but there were too many consoles and not enough sustainable software. Consoles also had to compete with computer games that were rising in popularity and this contributed to the crash.

Yes, I think video games are a form of art. They're a form of art because just like movies and books, video games tell a story that gets us engaged and intrigued. Video games now have graphics that are close to being as realistic as an actual human being and stunning visuals from the wold itself to its characters. Like any form of art, video games improve and change with time. New ways and graphics are being created all the time, sometimes triggering a big change in the video game industry. An example of this was when the movie mentioned the creation of Nintendo, a revolutionary change that would eventually bring video games to where they are now.

The movie states that the next evolution in video games is unknown but will most likely be VR as new technology is advancing this form of video games to be more immersive. Some challenges that'll need to be solved in the next generation of games is the desire for better graphics or more innovative ways to tell stories as consumers will want better games as more of them are released. Other challenges could include having a game feel as realistic as possible, whether it's characters we get emotionally attached to or technology that gives us a convincing feeling as if we are right in the game.
